Who Was Mehmet Çavaş?

Mehmet ÇAVAŞ, one of the most prominent figures in Karaman's economic life, was born on 1 August 1946 in the village of Kurtderesi, in central Karaman. His wife is Firdevs Hanım; his children are Ekrem, Mehmet Ali, Abdullah, Havva and Fatma. Widely known for his diligence, modesty and principled character, he earned the love and respect of everyone around him. He was a man of sustainable, success-driven character in business and economic affairs.

He is the founder of a group of companies — ÇAVPET Petroleum Products, ÇAVAŞ Feed and Flour Mills, ÇAVSA Cold-Chain Packaging and ONURLU Cold Storage — that today provide livelihoods for many families. These companies continue their commercial activities under the leadership of Mehmet ÇAVAŞ's sons. Together they make a significant contribution to the Karaman economy and provide employment to many people and their families.

Wishing to extend his outstanding service to business and the economy into the field of education as well, philanthropist Mehmet ÇAVAŞ, in partnership with the Karaman Governorship under the principle of "One School, A Thousand Futures," had a modern school built and donated it to the Ministry of National Education, offering it in service for the better education of future generations.

Mehmet ÇAVAŞ passed away on 18 November 2020, succumbing to COVID-19. We offer our prayers for his soul and express our deepest gratitude for this outstanding act of service that will keep his name alive for ever.
